Run, Mike, Run

I’ve been out of it for quite awhile. The previously mentioned flu bug knocked our family out for several weeks, and then just trying to catch up, keep up with things at church, etc. It all left little time for things like blogging.

But while I was away, the one thing that I kept hearing over and over was this idea that Mike Huckabee should be stepping aside, dropping out, throwing in the towel, whatever phraseology you want to use. What a ridiculous idea.

This is part of our process, isn’t it? The people have the right to vote for their party’s nominee. And that should mean that we have a choice in the matter. I love the way Gov. Huckabee has been stating it in recent interview: “This is an election, not a coronation.”

And he’s right. Sure Sen. McCain has more delegates; but he doesn’t have enough to secure the nomination. And until he does, the Gov. has every right, and I believe every responsibility to stay in the race. And that’s not even taking into consideration the fact that Huckabee is the only choice for the true conservative.

So here’s the deal.

First, Gov. Huckabee’s campaign is sending a letter to Sen. McCain asking to meet for a Lincoln-Douglas style debate. This would let folks see the positions of the two men side-by-side and give us a clearer portrait of just who it is we’re nominating. I think this is a wonderful idea and would encourage you to follow this link to sign that letter of request to Sen. McCain.

Second, my friend Rod Albert sent me a link to a poll asking about Huckabee pulling out. I would encourage you to follow that link as well, and let’s send a message to all those pundits out there who think the American way means to lay down and let the other guy have a free ride. (BTW you should also read Rod's post regarding a "brokered" convention. Interesting stuff. )

Hopefully, I’m getting back on track here. And hopefully I can talk about something besides politics in the very near future.

To use the words of a true conservative: "There you go again."

Huckabee is not the only candidate for the true conservative, and I invite you to go here: http://www.ronpaul2008.com/issues/ to see what I mean.

It's even on video so you can see and hear.

Also here is a bit of dialog from the Simpsons:

Kodos (a space alien): It’s true, we are aliens. But what are you going to do about it? It’s a two-party system; you have to vote for one of us.
Man: He’s right; this is a two-party system.
Homer: Well, I believe I’ll vote for a third-party candidate.
Kang (also a space alien): Go ahead! Throw your vote away!
(Both aliens laugh maniacally)
- From The Simpsons

That was in response to your next statement of Huckabee being the only "legitimate" candidate.

Thanks for noticing! I added that line just for you after our last conversation. Just checking to see if you were actually reading.

And thanks for throwing in the Reagan reference. I wish more people would remember him and what he stood for.

As for a response to the merit of the comment; I have to agree that RP stands for most of the same issues we do. However, based on a balance of strong conservative values and leadership experience, I still have to go with Huck. (I know RP has extensive congressional experience, but being chief executive is different. And call me biased, but pastoral experience is priceless!) Also, I have trouble with the fact that RP voted against the Iraq war and the Patriot Act. Call me a war monger, but I feel both were necessary.

Anyway, thanks for reading PFH. Hope we'll still see you Sunday.

PS, PFH
Thanks for signing with your blogger profile. I went and checked out both sites, though you've been quite inactive lately. Enjoyed 90% of what I read (we'll have to debate the baptism issue sometime).

BTW - How's the Highlander training coming?
